In January this year Rhys & Kiri tied the knot. After the ring was on, the day was postponed once due to a little guy called Gus, but it was definitely worth the wait. Rhys proposed after being together for a long time and at this stage the plan was to get married on the farm, nice and relaxed, maybe a burger buffet…. Oh wow how things changed. We loved working with Kiri to bring her new dream to life, she was so organised (I love it when the brides bring in their folders). She knew what she wanted and we loved helping her achieve it.
We were battling the forecast right up to the last minute with this one, we had our team out putting up our 9m x 9m marquee for their ceremony two hours before their arrival. They had their ceremony in front of the curved hedge at Lakeways Nursery (an exclusive venue for Silk Estate weddings) and their reception was off to the side, behind the circle garden, which is a beautiful feature for any marquee entrance. We quickly put out 80 chairs and placed her incredible helium ball0ons down the isle… every one mentioned it was perfect!
The boys arrived in style, wearing a textured navy suit (one of our favourites for the season) with feature buttons. Oh and their means of transportation wasn’t bad either. A bonus for this venue, you can land a helicopter!!! This photo gives such a mission impossible feel, don’t you think?
This is our team, eagerly awaiting Kiri to appear from around the garden, to walk down the isle to her best friend. It was a special moment when baby Gus was being walked down the isle as a groomsman with a bridesmaid. They had bubbles and beer as there pre marquee drinks while canapés were passed round. They also had a sweet lemonade type stand next to us with punch being served.
Kiri’s styling was executed by her friend Emma. Emma co-runs Confetti Events based in Ashburton and a lot of the little touches were theirs. The lounge area was very important to Kiri as she had extra guests arrive for the dance and she wanted somewhere for them to feel welcome. Also a wonderful personal touch was that Kiri asked our Silk Estate bar staff to stand at the entrance and welcome all the dance guests, to offer and deliver a drink and let them know to help them selves to the ice cream buffet! Well, what was left of it…
Look at that Beef! Twenty Four Catering Company executed the every course perfectly in every aspect. There were breads to start, then a choice of lamb, beef or chicken with french family styled platters for vegetables for their main and an ice cream buffet for dessert!!! No one could fault the food, perfect down to the last quenelle.
A little note – If you are having french family styled food service think about the space on the table, Kiri decided to have cake jars (which we heard were amazing) and also had a large centre piece. This meant there was very little room for the platters, but no panic as our Silk Estate team worked seamlessly with Twenty Four Catering and simply went around taking off the centrepieces, and replaced them after everything was cleared.
As the night went on the dance floor was filled, song after song with the band (Black Velvet) . Towards the end of the evening they had a friend sing a couple of acoustic songs that were just the perfect finishing touch to this beautiful families special day.
Lovelight Cinema & Photography captures everything in such an incredible way. If you ask Kiri they were the best decision she made.
